![]() I also "had" one of the first Taylor 512's built with cedar some years ago in the 90's. I have a very old all solid wood Daion dread guitar from the late 70's with a cedar top and hog back and sides, interestingly it has also a cedar neck, built in Japan. Though not a Taylor, I do have a cedar/cocobolo classical that sounds amazing. I think the cedar/mahogany guitars from the straight acoustic line (about ten years ago) were excellent, but for some reason I have never been overly impressed with 5XX-CEs from any year. I ended up ordering a 714-CE for myself because it did not cost as much as the W14 and I liked the simple black binding of the 714. ![]() The 714-CE didn't last long before someone bought it. Later, we got a 714-CE in the store that was also good, but it wasn't quite like the W14. The sales rep brought it into our store to show it off and I was hooked. ![]() But the guitar that turned me on to cedar in the first place was the W14 (cedar/walnut). I have a '98 714-CE and have had a GS7e (both cedar/rosewood). ![]() If I had to pick a new one today, I would have to reeducate myself on the current offerings. Given my early memories of cedar top Taylor guitars are from the mid to late 1990s, what is available today isn't like what I remember from the good old days.
